The Yoruba Council of Youth Worldwide (YCYW) has issued an urgent alarm over the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria, particularly in the Southwest, following the abduction of Prince Eniola Ojajuni, the Afenifere Youth Leader, by suspected Fulani terrorists in Abuja.
In response to this alarming incident, the YCYW is calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), Yoruba traditional rulers, and all relevant security agencies to take immediate and decisive action to secure his safe release. The demand for a N100 million ransom by the kidnappers is a direct affront to our collective security and an insult to the Yoruba nation.
Under the leadership of Asoju Odo Alawode Rahmon, and as conveyed in this statement by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Ogbeni Kabir Ajibode, the YCYW urges the Southwest Governors to take the lead in pressing for urgent government intervention to facilitate Prince Ojajuni’s release.
Furthermore, the YCYW demands a comprehensive security overhaul across the Southwest to protect the lives and properties of Yoruba people against the rising threats posed by terrorist infiltrations in the region.
The Yoruba nation will not stand idly by as our people continue to be targeted. We remain resolute and prepared to take every necessary action to ensure the safety of our youth and the entire Southwest. We call on all Yoruba sons and daughters, both at home and in the diaspora, to remain vigilant and raise their voices in response to this urgent crisis.
The time for action is now!
