Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to relinquish any control he wishes to maintain over Rivers State in order to foster peace in the oil-rich region. Fubara, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, expressed no regrets about holding the local government elections last Saturday, despite opposition from Wike’s allies within both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fubara emphasized that his actions, including swearing in the newly elected local government chairmen, were necessary for the state’s progress. He further stated that despite having honored all agreements with Wike, peace remains elusive. “I have done everything, including kneeling and begging, to allow this issue to be resolved. Yet, there is no peace,” Fubara lamented.
His comments underline the ongoing tensions between him and Wike, as Fubara continues to navigate his leadership while calling for an end to the discord in the state.
