FG Approves N820bn for Abuja-Kaduna, Bodo-Bonny Road Projects
The Federal Government has approved a budget of N820 billion for the completion of two major projects: the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway and the construction of the Bodo-Bonny road, including bridges across the Opobo Channel.
This was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by Orji Orji, the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Works, David Umahi. The government has tasked Julius Berger Nigeria Plc with accelerating the completion of the 82km Section II of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway, which spans across the Federal Capital Territory, Kaduna, and Kano states.
In the Federal Executive Council meeting held on September 23, 2024, the council approved a revision and reduction in the scope of the contract for the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway project. The total revised contract sum stands at N740.8 billion. Additionally, the contract for the construction of the Bodo-Bonny road, including bridges over the Opobo Channel in Rivers State, has been revised to N80 billion.
Umahi urged Julius Berger to accelerate work across multiple locations, particularly on the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano project, and complete it within 14 months. He further emphasized the importance of reasonable pricing for the projects, given the country’s economic challenges.
Regarding the Bodo-Bonny road project, the minister confirmed that the government has agreed on a fixed contract sum of N280 billion with a 12-month completion deadline. He urged the contractors to mobilize at a minimum of three locations to ensure timely completion.
