Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has appointed his daughter, Helen Eno-Obareki, as the Acting First Lady following the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Eno. The announcement was made during a visit by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and other dignitaries in Uyo on October 4, 2024.
Governor Eno explained that Helen would assume the responsibilities of the First Lady’s office, ensuring the continuation of projects initiated by her late mother. He expressed confidence in Helen’s ability to uphold her mother’s values and legacy, stating she would collaborate with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs to maintain the office’s initiatives.
Reflecting on his relationship with his late wife, Governor Eno shared personal memories, calling her a gift from God and a steadfast partner throughout their journey. He also addressed rumors about remarrying, humorously dismissing the idea and affirming that his late wife’s legacy would continue through their daughter’s work.
Helen will now oversee the activities of the Office of the First Lady, ensuring that the programs initiated by her mother remain active and impactful.
