Governor Fubara of Rivers State has made it clear that while he remains committed to doing what is right, he refuses to sacrifice his liver or kidney for anyone in the name of loyalty. His comments, made during an Independence Day thanksgiving service, are widely seen as a response to claims by former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Wike had earlier accused Fubara of turning his back on him and others after being supported to become governor. Fubara, however, emphasized that he is focused on doing what is right, even if it means standing alone, and would not compromise his principles in exchange for loyalty.
Fubara also denied Wike’s allegations that he was involved in an attempted bombing at a civic reception held by the Rivers Ijaw People’s Council. He insisted he has never directed security forces to carry out unlawful actions, noting that those trying to harm him would fail because, in his words, “God has left them.”
In a pointed response to Wike’s criticisms of his administration, Fubara highlighted key projects his government has undertaken in just one year, comparing them favorably to Wike’s eight-year tenure. He mocked his critics, suggesting that the inclusion of a psychiatric wing in a new General Hospital project would soon benefit those who continue to attack him.
He further detailed his administration’s achievements, including the construction of the Port Harcourt Ring Road and the Trans-Kalabari Road, both financed without borrowing. Fubara also emphasized that his focus remains on serving the people of Rivers State, rather than pursuing personal business interests, and called for humility and modesty from those seeking to undermine his efforts.
Fubara reiterated his commitment to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) despite internal tensions and urged for peaceful elections, stressing that the welfare of the people should be the priority for all political leaders.
