The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported the successful destruction of a terrorist logistics base in Yadi Forest, located in the Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as part of Operation Whirl Punch (OPWP).
In a statement released on Monday in Abuja by Group Capt. Kabiru Ali, the Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, it was revealed that the operation was carried out following reliable intelligence about a significant terrorist presence and an arsenal of weapons in the area.
Ali explained that comprehensive intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations confirmed the ongoing activity of terrorists and their motorcycles at the location. Further intelligence indicated that the logistics base was associated with the notorious terrorist leader, Kadade Gurgu, who is known to be an associate of Dogo Gide.
He added that Kadade Gurgu had been providing refuge to several infamous terrorist leaders due to intensified military actions in Sokoto and Zamfara States.
To carry out the attack, the air component deployed an aircraft, supported by an Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform. Initially, the target area seemed deserted, but as the aircraft neared, some terrorists were spotted fleeing from the underbrush.
The targeted facility was subsequently engaged, resulting in successful strikes that ignited flames and thick black smoke billowing from the site. Independent sources, including local informants, later confirmed the total destruction of the logistics base, with numerous terrorists reportedly killed in the strike.
Ali emphasized that the NAF, alongside ground forces, is committed to maintaining control of the operational area through enhanced situational awareness, regular patrols, and focused efforts to eliminate bandit strongholds in the Northwest and North Central regions, aiming to eradicate terrorism and related criminal activities.
