The Federal Government has approved an upward revision of the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS).
Ekpo Nta, Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. Nta explained that the salary review followed the enactment of the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with labor unions.
He noted that the revision would benefit workers under various salary structures, including the Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Universities Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS), and Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure II (CONTISS II). Others covered include the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS), Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS), and the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).
Additionally, employees under the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICSS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS) will also benefit from the increase.
“This revision is in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024 and the MoU reached between the Federal Government and the Trade Union sides of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council on September 20,” Nta said.
The review follows President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the minimum wage bill into law on July 29, 2024, which raised the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000. The salary adjustments for civil servants will take effect from July 29, 2024.
