The Dangote Group has dismissed as “mischievous” and “misleading” claims by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited that it sells fuel to NNPC at N898 per litre.
Anthony Chiejina, Chief Branding and Communications Officer of the Dangote Group, refuted the claim in a statement on Sunday, urging Nigerians to disregard the false information and wait for an official announcement on pricing from the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries.
“Our attention has been drawn to a statement attributed to NNPCL spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, alleging that we sell PMS at N898 per litre to NNPCL,” the statement reads.
“This claim is misleading and mischievous, seemingly intended to undermine the significant milestone achieved today, September 15, 2024, in addressing energy shortages and insecurity that have plagued the economy for the past 50 years.”
The statement further advised Nigerians to wait for an official pricing announcement from the Technical Sub-Committee, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which will begin on October 1, 2024, noting that the current stock of crude was purchased in dollars.
“It is important to note that the products were sold to NNPCL in dollars, with considerable savings compared to their current import costs. This move ensures petrol availability in all local government areas, including remote regions,” the statement added.
The Dangote Group assured Nigerians of a steady supply of quality petroleum products and the eventual end to the country’s long-standing fuel scarcity issues.
