The federal government, through the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has officially inaugurated the Committee on Consequential Salary Adjustments for civil servants. This committee was formed to implement the provisions of the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act, which raised the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.
Chaired by Walson-Jack, the 16-member committee includes representatives from both the federal government and Trade Unions. Its mandate is to negotiate and agree on salary adjustments and create a framework for the implementation of the new minimum wage. During the inauguration in Abuja on Friday, Walson-Jack highlighted the importance of the committee’s work, emphasizing its role in preserving industrial peace and ensuring harmony in the workforce.
She expressed confidence that the committee will carry out its responsibilities in a manner that serves the best interests of the public service and the nation. Walson-Jack noted that the inauguration aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on reducing poverty and fostering an environment conducive to national prosperity.
“It is essential that we understand the importance of this task. By maintaining industrial peace and harmony, I am confident we will fulfill our duties in the best interests of the public service and the country,” she stated.
The committee includes representatives from key bodies such as the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service, and various Trade Unions. With this move, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the economic welfare of Nigerian workers and enhancing productivity within the public sector.
