The Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch successfully carried out an airstrike on Wednesday, September 11, neutralizing over 28 terrorists in Niger State, according to a statement by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, Group Captain Kabiru Ali.
The operation targeted terrorists in Bassa after friendly forces requested air support. Upon arrival, NAF air assets observed over 100 terrorists engaging in a firefight with friendly troops. After confirming the positions of the troops, the Air Force conducted precision strikes, devastating the terrorists’ ranks.
As of the report, 28 bodies had been recovered, with additional terrorists, weapons, and burnt motorcycles still being cleared from the area.
Group Captain Ali emphasized that the operation underscores the Air Force’s commitment to protecting the nation and supporting sister services in the fight against banditry, terrorism, and insurgency. The NAF assured Nigerians that it would continue to conduct air operations to eliminate threats to the nation’s peace and security.
