Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted consignments of cocaine and pharmaceutical opioids at three courier firms in Lagos, the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. The drugs, which were concealed in sanitary pads and hair treatment cream containers, were bound for the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Cyprus.
In one instance, NDLEA officers discovered 30 parcels of cocaine weighing 1.1 kilograms hidden in hair cream containers during a cargo examination headed for Ireland on Sept. 3. Two days later, another consignment of 24 parcels of cocaine, weighing 862 grams and also hidden in hair cream containers, was intercepted en route to the UK.
Additionally, 525 pills of tramadol (225mg) and ecstasy (MDMA), concealed in sanitary pads and headed for Cyprus, were seized on Sept. 3 at another courier firm.
On Sept. 4, a shipment of 200 ampoules of promethazine and pentazocine injections, concealed in food and herbs, was intercepted while en route to London. A separate consignment of tramadol (225mg) concealed in granulated melon from Cameroon and headed to South Africa was seized on Sept. 6.
In a related development, NDLEA operatives, in collaboration with Nigerian Customs officers, seized 550,000 tramadol pills at the Port Harcourt International Airport on Sept. 2. The cargo had originated from Delhi, India.
