The competition to determine the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the Ondo State governorship election on November 16, 2024, is reaching its conclusion.
The race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer in the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State is reaching its climax.
Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State, speaking at the Dome Hall of the International Culture and Event Centre in Akure on Sunday night, marked the conclusion of the Ondo State APC primary election. The hall was packed with party supporters, INEC representatives, local observers, and security personnel.
Ododo, the Chairman of the seven-member APC committee overseeing the primary in Ondo, urged the 16 aspirants to see the contest as a fraternal competition, emphasizing that the real battle lies in the November 16, 2024 governorship poll.
Accompanied by party leaders, including ex-Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Ododo then instructed the returning officers from each of Ondo’s 18 local governments to announce their results.
The ruling APC expected 171,922 members across the state’s 203 wards to participate in Saturday’s primary. Sixteen contenders are vying for the party’s ticket, including Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Olusola Oke, Adewale Akinterinwa, and others.
Some aspirants, such as Edema, Oke, and Akinterinwa, have criticized the conduct of the primary and called for its cancellation.
Earlier on Sunday, protests erupted in Akure, demanding the annulment of the primary and the removal of Ododo as committee chair.
Ododo is anticipated to announce the winner of the primary imminently.
